Flight from eden follows a ten-year underground project to build and launch a spacecraft, for reasons that I'll let you find out for yourself by reading it. Graham's focus is less ideological than psychological.

She deals at length with the struggles of protagonist Kris Garrick (an astrophysicist leading the project) to come to terms with the necessity of killing in defense of self and of the project, as well as with the enormous responsibilities of command and leadership.

Those struggles, of course, take place in the context of one tremendously intriguing story.

I resented having to put the book down to get work done.

Any of you who are members of the Libertarian Futurist Society: this book deserves a Prometheus nomination.
